Getting in the Groove
Walked out of my apartment complex this morning towards the motor scooter area at the front of the complex and spoke with another teacher who used Grab every morning. We agreed to split the price of the Grab (60Baht each) and now I don’t have to ride on the back of a motor scooter any longer. I feel much better because it was a dangerous endeavor and for the short time I am here; I don’t want to get injured in a motor scooter accident.
I taught my classes today and felt like I was in more of a groove. My lesson plans were mapped out and I was able to transition from one activity to the next without much interruption from the students. Some of the students went on the internet and searched my name at which point they found out I was a professional baseball player. They were very excited about this and let me know that they thought I was a “celebrity”. I made the mistake of blurting out my Instagram account to the older students and I was inundated that night with follow requests which I subsequently declined. Lesson learned—don’t give out any personal information or it will be spread around by all the students.
After school, I went to the local Post Office near my apartment complex and mailed the gifts I had bought at the floating market to America. I had difficulty speaking with the Thai employee so I downloaded Google Translate and was able to communicate with him without any further problems. The cost to send approximately five gifts in a small box to America was 2,400Baht which is about $65.00 U.S. Dollars. I walked through the open-air market and ate dinner which consisted of a cheeseburger (65Baht), six halved fried eggs stuffed with imitation crab and shrimp (25Baht), and French fries covered in a spicy cheese powder (20Baht). Afterwards, me and another teacher ended up at an all wood high ceiling bar located by our apartment complex along the main roadway. I bought three Chang beers for 200Baht which I shared with the other teacher and every time my glass went empty, the waiter would immediately fill it with beer. We stayed until approximately 9:00PM and we noticed that more and more scantily clad girls were milling around along with a live band that started playing extremely loud music. We decided that it was getting too “seedy” for our taste and left back to our apartments for the night.
