Holiday (Day 3 Nightlife) — Saxophone Jazz Pub
Day 3 of my holiday whipsaw didn’t end like I had planned. I took a short nap during the taxi ride home from Ayutthaya and awakened with a sense of purpose. I dove into my next adventure with added vigor leading me to the conviction that I needed a night of food and fun. The Saxophone Jazz Pub kept hitting during my online Bangkok search so I proceeded to find out what all the noise was about. According to the internet, the jazz pub was one of the oldest in Bangkok and served mixed drinks, beer along with a dinner menu.
I exited the Victory Monument BTS station and walked about half a block until I found the entrance to the Saxophone Pub.
I entered through the front door into a dimly lit bar area that opened to the live jazz band who was comprised of Thai musicians. They were extraordinary in their interpretation of American Jazz music. The first floor had no open seats at the semi-circle bar, tables or full bar at which point I headed upstairs where I found a table along the railing. I was able to look down on the band and the acoustics in the room were satisfactory. I ordered fried whole fish, green spicy papaya salad, and a spicy shrimp soup that I devoured before I could take a picture. The band played through the waning hours of the night covering a wide array of tenor saxophone, bass, and drum solos combined with smooth vocals.
